ROLE SUMMARY

Nurse Manager is responsible for planning and administering activities of a nursing unit or floor. The Nurse Manager supervises nursing services that are delivered to each patient in accordance with quality standards, and serves as a role model to staff and other employees.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Reviews, oversees, and ensures complete and accurate recording of information necessary for meeting the patient’s needs and for legal documentation.

2. Ensure nursing care follows the nursing process, acceptable Standards of Care and Standard of Practice and WAC’s.

3. Ensure the 24-hour staffing pattern for the unit meets the nursing needs of patients. Provide 24 hour accountability by assigning designated resources (Assistant Nurse Manager, shift coordinator, educator, RN) to cover and meet the unit and shift needs.

4. Ensure proper utilization of policies, procedures, techniques, and equipment on the unit, through teaching, supervision and evaluation.

5. Encourages staff participation in hospital committees and facilitates attendance.

6. Encourage staff to use critical thinking in problem solving and decision making.

7. Determine qualifications, competence, and requirements of department personnel in the selection of new employees and monitoring performance.

8. Collaborates with staff and peers in the formation, review and/or revision of nursing leadership, unit goals and objectives yearly.

9. Be accountable for payroll for each staff member assigned to unit cost center.

10. Maintain budgetary responsibility for the unit by establishing and maintaining a yearly budget

11. Serves on appropriate hospital and Family of Services committees.

12. Assumes responsibility for the overall operation of the department/unit.

13. Acts as a hospital representative on community boards.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Education: A Bachelor's Degree in business, Nursing or heath care related field required

Experience: At least three (3) years of nursing experience. Previous Cardiac Cath Lab Experience preferred.

Licenses/Certificates/Registration: American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) from an accredited school of Radiologic Technology with Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS), Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or RN from an accredited school of Nursing. Current BLS for Healthcare Provider required

a. Ability to compose materials such as detailed reports, work-related manuals, publications of limited scope or impact, etc. and/or ability to make informal presentations

b. Ability to formulate complex and comprehensive materials such as legal documents, authoritative reports, official publications of major scope and impact, etc., and or to make formal presentations.

c. Effective communication is essential.

5. Physical requirements for this position include: hearing, seeing, speaking, feeling, reaching, grasping, and repetitive motions.

a. This position requires sitting for long period of time. Walking and standing are required routinely.

b. This position requires exerting up to 30 pounds of force in order to lift, carry, pull, or move objects
